The Rensselaer Statistical Consulting
Center
The Rensselaer Statistical Consulting Center was established
to:
- Provide statistical planning
and analysis services to Rensselaer researchers who require
such services;
- Serve companies and government
agencies which require advice on state-of-art statistical
and probabilistic methods and their applications;
- Allow graduate students,
as part of their educational program, to appy - in a supervised
manner - established and new statistical and probabilistic
approaches to real-world problems; and
- Offer general and organization
specific short-term training programs and state-of-the-art
courses in statistical methodology and practices.
The center's
founding faculty includes:
They represent
a range of statistical expertise, and they have extensive
research and consulting experience. These faculty provide,
on a consulting or a short-term basis, advice and guidance
on the appropriate use of statistical and probabilistic methods
to the center's clients. The faculty are ably assisted by
a cadre of talented and energetic graduate students who have
completed advance courses in statistics and probability. It
is expected that each client engagement will involve a team
of at least one faculty member and one graduate student.
In addition to
its world-renowned staff, the center has access to supercomputers
and campus-wide networks of UNIX-based workstations and IBM-compatible
personal computers. Electronic transfer of data and results
is facilitated by full internet connectivity of these computer
networks. Available software resources include SAS, Matlab,
and a full range of high-level compilers. Further, Rensselaer
has extensive library and reference facilities.
